UIC于6月29日举行第十届毕业典礼暨荣誉院士颁授典礼,五位社会杰出人士获颁荣誉院士荣衔,以表彰他们对国家、社会和教育事业的贡献,以及对UIC的支持。

北京大学哲学社会科学资深教授叶朗先生,因多年来在学术界、文化界、艺术界的骄人成就和杰出贡献,获颁荣誉院士。其他四位获嘉许的是美国心理学家、统计学家、加州大学洛杉矶分校(UCLA)特聘教授Peter M. Bentler,科大讯飞创始人、董事长刘庆峰博士,香港科技大学创校校长吴家玮教授,著名琵琶演奏家、中央音乐学院章红艳教授。

在颁授典礼上,中国语言文化中心主任伍鸿宇教授为叶朗先生致赞辞。赞扬他传承和弘扬北大的优良传统,重视美学和艺术学的学科建设,重视在高校及全社会开展美育、艺术教育和人文教育,以他六十年的学术生涯,激励着后辈不断向前,去追求一种更有意义、更有价值、更有情趣的人生。

在颁授典礼之前,叶朗先生还参观了中华文化传播研究院,与同事们就中华优秀传统文化的传承与传播进行了深入的交流和探讨。
UIC秉承香港浸会大学的传统,于2012年建立荣誉院士制度,在此之前共颁授荣誉院士荣衔予26位杰出人士,他们来自世界各地,在文理商工等领域均有杰出成就。
荣誉院士叶朗先生赞辞
叶朗先生是北京大学博雅讲席教授,1960年于北大哲学系毕业后留校任教,1986年任教授,1990年被评为国家级有突出贡献的中青年专家,1993年任博士生导师,2005年任北大哲学社会科学资深教授。叶朗先生曾任第九届、十届全国政协常委,国务院第五届哲学学科评议组召集人,教育部第二届高等学校哲学学科教学指导委员会主任委员,教育部第五届、六届艺术教育委员会主任委员。
在北大六十年,叶朗先生的人生经历可以用三个同心圆来形容。
第一个同心圆,是叶先生对美学、艺术学、人文学的研究和教学。叶先生从上世纪八十年代开始面向全校开设了多门美学课程,深受学生欢迎,并于2001年被评为“国家级教学成果”一等奖。同时,叶先生还著有《中国小说美学》、《中国美学史大纲》、《美在意象》等原创性的学术著作,在美学研究领域产生了重要影响。叶先生主持出版的《中国历代美学文库》是中国传统美学和艺术理论的一座巨型思想库和资料库。概而言之,叶先生在美学和艺术学的理论建设方面做出了巨大的贡献,也为后人提供了一个稳固的理论立足点。
第二个同心圆,是叶朗先生对北大哲学、人文、艺术等学科建设的推动和促进。叶先生在北大曾同时担任哲学系、宗教学系和艺术学系三个系的系主任前后长达18年,为北大相关学科建设和队伍建设付出了大量的时间和心血。叶先生于2006年在北大成立了艺术学院并担任院长,这对北大的艺术教育和艺术学的学科建设有着深远的意义。同时,叶先生还主持成立了“北京大学美学与美育研究中心”与“北京大学文化产业研究院”,为美学的学科建设、人才培养以及文化产业的理论和政策研究做了大量的工作。
第三个同心圆,是叶朗先生推动整个社会重视美育和艺术教育,重视人文教育和人文学科的建设。人文教育和人文学科建设不是靠一所大学的努力就可以做好的,而是必须引起整个社会的重视。叶先生不仅和教育界人士共同推动美育正式列入国家教育方针,而且和文化界人士共同推动政府出台了一系列振兴昆曲的计划。2005年,叶先生和白先勇先生合作,把昆曲青春版《牡丹亭》引进北京大学百年讲堂,并由此开启了《牡丹亭》在全国高校的巡演。此外,叶先生多次在全国政协会议上,呼吁全社会重视人文艺术教育,重视中国传统艺术的研究;还面向全国大学生策划和制作了“艺术与审美”系列的网络共享课;写作出版了面向全国青少年的《中国文化读本》,目前已被翻译成八种外语在全世界发行。可以说,叶先生为传承中华优秀文化、弘扬中国精神一直没有停止过努力。
以上三个同心圆,有一个共同的圆心,就是传承和弘扬北大的优良传统,重视美学和艺术学的学科建设,重视在高校及全社会开展美育、艺术教育和人文教育。这三个同心圆也构成了叶先生流光溢彩、硕果累累的六十年学术生涯,激励着后辈不断向前,不断提升自己的心灵世界,去追求一种更有意义、更有价值、更有情趣的人生。
校长阁下,为表彰叶朗先生在学术界、文化界、艺术界的骄人成就和对社会与国家的杰出贡献,谨此恭请校长阁下授予叶朗先生荣誉院士荣衔。
Professor Lang YE
Professor Lang YE is the Boya Chair Professor at Peking University. After graduating from the Department of Philosophy at Peking University in 1960, he began teaching at his Alma Mater, and was promoted to professor in 1986. In 1990, Professor Ye was nominated as one of national young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contribution. He became Doctoral Advisor in 1993, and Senior Professor of Philosophy and Social Science at Peking University in 2005. He was a standing committee member of the 9th and 10th CPPCC, the coordinator of the 5th state council evaluation team for philosophy subjects, the chair committee member of MOE’s second higher education institutions committer for the direction of teaching philosophy subjects, and the chair committee member of MOE’s fifth and sixth committees of arts education.
Perhaps we can describe Professor Ye’s 60 years at Peking University by three concentric circles.
The first concentric circle is Professor Ye’s research on aesthetics, art studies, and humanity, as well as his teaching in these fields. Since 1980s, Professor Ye has offered many courses on aesthetics to all students at Peking University. All the courses were very popular. Consequently, he won the first prize of “National Teaching Achievements” in 2001. Meanwhile, Professor Ye has published many original books, such as The Aesthetics of Chinese Novel, The Outline of the History of Chinese Aesthetics, and Aesthetics in Images, which are very influential in the field of aesthetic research. The Series of Aesthetics in Dynasties of China, which was edited by Professor Ye, is a gigantic thinking bank and database of the theories of aesthetic and art in traditional China. In one word, Professor Ye has contributed outstandingly to the theoretical construction of aesthetic and art studies, and provided a solid theoretical standpoint for later generations.
The second concentric circle is Professor Ye’s promotion of the construction and development of philosophy, humanity, arts and other related subjects at Peking University. Professor Ye had been, both synchronically and diachronically, the chair of the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Religions, and the Department of Arts at the same time, for total 18 years, devoting himself wholeheartedly to the establishment of related disciplines and faculty teams at Peking University. In 2006, Professor Ye founded the School of Arts at Peking University, and acted as Dean of the School of Arts. It has a far-reaching influence for the arts education and the discipline development of art studies at Peking University. At the same time, Professor Ye also took charge of the establishment of the Research Center for Aesthetics and Aesthetical Education at Peking University and the Institute of Culture Industry at Peking University, and contributed a lot to the discipline development and faculty team of aesthetics, and the research on the theories and policies of culture industry.
The third concentric circle is that Professor Ye has promoted the whole society to pay attention to the education of aesthetics and arts, as well as the education of humanity and the construction of humanity disciplines. The education of humanity and the development of humanity disciplines depend on the whole society’s attention, not merely one university’s effort. Not only has Professor Ye, with colleagues in the education circle, successfully helped the education of aesthetics officially become one of national education policies, but also with cultural people prompted the government to issue a series of plans to bolster Kun Opera. In 2005, Professor Ye and Mr. Xianyong BAI cooperated to perform the young version of Kun Opera “Peony Pavilion” in the Centennial Lecture Hall at Peking University, and it was the beginning of the road show of “Peony Pavilion” at universities in China. Furthermore, in CPPCC, Professor Ye has repeatedly called for the society’s attention to the education of humanity and arts, and the research on traditional Chinese arts. He designed and produced a series of online courses on “Arts and Aesthetic Appreciation” for college students in China, and also wrote and published The Reader of Chinese Culture, which targets the youngsters in China and has been translated into 8 languages in the world. We can say that Professor Ye never stops inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture and promoting Chinese spirits.
The three concentric circles above share the same center, which is to inherit and promote the great tradition of Peking University, emphasize on the discipline development of aesthetics and art studies, and pay attention to the development of education of aesthetics, arts and humanity in both universities and the society. These three concentric circles also constitute Professor Ye’s shining and prestigious academic life of 60 years. They encourage later generations to keep forward, to continuously improve their own spiritual world, and to pursue a life with more meaning, value and fascination.
Mr. Chairman, for Professor Ye’s outstanding achievements in academia and the field of culture and arts, and great contribution to the society and country, please award the honorable title of Honorary Fellow to Professor Lang YE.
