Mr. Jialu XU

Prof. Xu Jialu is the former Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress. He graduated from Beijing Normal University in 1959 and remained as staff member and, later, Chairman of the Faculty of Chinese Language until 1987. From 1987-1994 Prof. Xu was Vice-President of Beijing Normal University and a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress. Subsequently, he was named Chairman of the Working Committee on Language and Linguistics under the NPC and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of NPC. With numerous publications on language and linguistics, Prof. Xu is an authority in the field. In 2005 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Hong Kong Baptist University.
