Institute for Communication Studies of Chinese Culture (ICSCC) at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University(BNBU) was established in 2016, under the joint efforts of Prof. Xu Jialu, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, also a renowned linguist, and Prof. Ng Ching-Fai, former president of BNBU. Since its inception, ICSCC has been based in BNBU, deeply researching the history of Zhuhai and the Greater Bay Area, and revitalizing cultural resources, leveraging its proximity to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to become an important institution for promoting fine traditional Chinese culture.
Chinese culture is extensive and profound. To promote Chinese culture effectively in today’s changeable world, we are well aware of the joint efforts from all sectors to establish a communication framework that resonates with the realities and dynamics of modern society. Over the past two decades, BNBU has not only globalized Chinese culture but also refined its expression, ensuring its depth is accurately conveyed. Our team at ICSCC has been at the forefront of this mission, contributing significantly to this cultural journey.
Through our collective efforts, ICSCC has already set up communication programs such as “International Symposium on Chinese Culture and Society”, “Lingnan Chinese traditional court music”, “Chinese Archery Training”, and “Huitong Literati Gathering”, attracting top scholars with a blend of national pride and global vision. We have also launched “Chinese Culture and Global Communication” as an undergraduate major, dedicated to nurturing talents who can excel on the world stage. ICSCC has made remarkable contributions to the promotion of Chinese culture and the enhancement of its influence As the Dean, I am honored to be part of this significant endeavor.
Moving forward, we are committed to fostering international exchanges, pioneering innovative communication strategies, developing a deep understanding of cultural heritage, and nourishing talents in Chinese studies. We will integrate modern technological advancements with the essence of traditional culture to explore the subtleties of history and the core of thought. Together with those who cherish Chinese culture globally, we will continue to spread its influence and expand its reach.
In The Analects, a disciple of Confucius called Master Zeng said, “An intellectual should be strong and steady, for his duty is heavy and his journey will be long.” “A man,” said the Master, “may be inspired by poetry, established in performing the rites, and perfected by music.” I believe ICSCC which embodies the principles of the Six Arts——rites, music, archery, equestrian, calligraphy and mathematics in ancient Chinese culture, will open a new chapter in the global narrative of Chinese culture, under the relentless dedication of our team.
