Back in 2014, invited scholars and UIC students extensively discussed how to inherit and pass on Chinese culture at the 14th Teaching and Learning Symposium on Chinese Culture and Society. In his address, UIC President Prof Ng Ching-Fai encouraged the students to take initiatives and let the world know about Chinese culture.

In that year, the idea of founding the Institute for Communication Studies of Chinese Culture at UIC came into Chairman of the UIC Council, Prof Xu Jialu’s mind. Two years later, the institute was established, nudging UIC in a steady direction of further developing its own characteristics.

Prof Xu serves as the director of the institute, Prof Ng Ching-Fai as the executive vice-director, and Dr Wu Hongyu, Director of Chinese Language and Culture Centre, as the general secretary.

Dr Wu said the institute would conduct studies and projects on promoting the country’s rich culture. Based on the college and following the One-Belt-One-Road initiative, it would organise multiple academic and cultural activities to enhance students’ international experience as well as sharing the beauty of culture with people from other countries.
